Massage Therapy - Holistic or Remedial ...

My technique is adapted to your individual needs so can be holistic and relaxing, or remedial, for those with muscular tension, whether caused by tension, accident, injury or work-related postural restriction.

As I work, I ‘tune-in’ to your body’s individual muscular tension and focus on providing relief. For that reason, no two massages are the same. Each treatment is tailored to meet your needs on that day.

The initial session is typically an hour and a quarter during which a health history questionnaire is completed and an assessment conducted during the hour-long massage session. This session is charged at the standard hourly rate of just one hour. Thereafter you may opt for a 30 minute, 45, 60- or 90-minute massage.

 Myofascial Release Therapy (MFR)

Myofascial Release Therapy is a manual release using my hand and before any oil is applied to the body. This technique is slow yet powerful and most people report it to be very relaxing. Each area can take up to 5 minutes to ‘release’.
My clients have reported great relief from frozen shoulder related pain, shoulder strain and inhibited sideways movement from tight latissimus dorsi muscles.

In addition to working on your muscles, ligaments and tendons I am able to work on the fascia that may be restricting your mobility.

Fascia is a relatively new focus in the body work industry yet has been around for eternity. Fascia is a strong and flexible substance that surrounds every tissue and organ in the body. After accident or injury (trauma) or prolonged postural tension it can become hard and build up scar tissue in the body. I use two techniques to release the fascia restrictions in your body.

During a remedial massage session, to enhance your experience I may, with your agreement, perform some fascial release techniques as follows:

Kinnective Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM)

Another approach I use is Kinnective IASTM. This enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue, fascial restrictions and adhesions and change muscle tonus. The technique utilizes a specifically designed stainless steel-instrument which is used to both assess and treat areas exhibiting soft tissue dysfunction. The instrument also becomes a diagnostic implement as it acts to “magnify” what is felt in the tissue just as a stethoscope amplifies chest breath sounds. Source: Kinnective website The Kinnective tool is used remedially where the fascia is particularly stuck following accident or injury. That event may have occurred 30 years in the past, yet still be presenting problems, often experienced through restricted movement/lack of flexibility. I use the tool during remedial massage to enhance the treatment experience and to accelerate recovery. My clients typically find that after 4-6 sessions there is a marked improvement in terms of increased mobility and significantly reduced pain. My clients have found it especially beneficial for plantar fasciitis, hip bursar, sciatic pain especially with a muscular onset, knee and thigh injuries.
